We came for dinner but got a side dish of golf.
It all started when our daughter spotted a half-abandoned mini-putt course on the knoll behind the Eat ‘n’ Meet Grill, an off-the-wall restaurant in Saranac Lake, New York.
In the time it took for our tasty jerk chicken and fish tacos to arrive, Stephanie had tracked down the free putters and balls, and was partway up the hill. It took some persuasion to get her to come down and eat. After a quick nosh, she scampered off again to finish her game under the gaze of a huge Elvis statue on the restaurant’s balcony.
Porthcawl, Wales – On July 24th Wales will welcome their first ever major golf Championship when the 2014 Senior Open takes place at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. Wales has hosted many national and international events including the Walker Cup, four European Tour Welsh Classics and The Amateur Championship six times, but a Major has always eluded them, until now.
Porthcawl dates back to 1891 and comes with a fine pedigree. It is currently ranked #1 in Wales and #86 in the world according to the Top 100 Golf Courses of the World. From the clubhouse, you can see the beachfront views to the south and across the Swansea Bay to the rugged coastline of the Gower Peninsula to the northwest.
St. Andrews-by-the Sea, NB – I am not an extreme sports person. Heck, I’m barely a sports person. So off-road biking has never been high on my list of must-do activities, especially since I have a history of toppling off bikes that dates back to the 1970s.
But then I heard about Off Kilter Bike. Riders with this company, based in St. Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, wear cute little kilts as they explore roads and trails around the pretty Maritime village. Kilts! How hard could it be?
by Dave Finn: Kamloops is about a four hour drive from Banff, Vancouver or Seattle and is actually the northern-most part of the Sonoran Desert that is tucked in between two mountain ranges – the Coast Mountains and the Monashee Mountains. Their semi-arid desert climate is perfect for golfers plus the topography changes dramatically offering a tremendous diversity of golfing experiences.
